Movies+3=0 Brain Cells

Last week Adam and I had our fair share of movies. I go to like 1 movie a month, if that, but last week we saw "Why Did I Get Married?," "The Assassination of Jesse James," and "American Gangster." I was going to blog about those experiences but last week I was so overly opinionated that I annoyed myself, so I wanted to spare you. I will say this though, Adam doesn't like Tyler Perry, (Actor and writer of "Why Did I get Married," "Diary of a Mad Black Woman" etc.)and the only reason he even went to this movie was because LeCrae and Darragh saw it and LeCrae liked some aspects of it, so he trusted him enough to see it. So, at the beginning of the movie we made a deal that he wouldn't sigh heavily and make comments until after the movie. He did a great job:) I probably shouldn't say he doesn't like Tyler Perry but rather he believes that he exploits black people in his movies. And I agree, but sometimes I think its funny. Just know that when you watch those films that all black people don't act the way that he portrays them, in the same way that all white people who are into NASCAR probably don't live and act like Ricky Bobby in Talladega Nights. (Emphasis on the "probably") It's best to keep in mind that no one people group can be lumped in with "all" at any point. The movie was okay. It had some great convo topics, but isn't necessarily the relationship therapy that I continually hear people talking about just because it mentions the "80/20" rule. If you want to learn about that, go see the movie:)

We also saw the "Assassination of Jesse James" which I would actually recommend. But you definitely have to be in the mood (girls) to see it. Its kind of slow and "ho hum" and without Brad Pitt (who I wasn't paying attention to because I was already sitting next to the finest man in the world) you might be tempted to doze, but its just a great re-telling of the story of the man's assassination. I think it just paints a great picture of the cycle of sin. They focused alot on the man who killed him and I believe Casey Affleck should get an Oscar nod for the role.

And finally the movie that I still can't get over...American Gangster. This movie (which is based on a true story of the crime life of Frank Lucas) is why I failed to blog last week because it really just had me kind of upset. Denzel Washington is so dazzling in every single movie that he is in and can make you fall in love with any character, but even his charm would not allow me to root for this bad guy. He just literally got away with murder, not to mention all the people his heroin killed. I found myself googling him all week to see pictures of his family and trying to get the real story. The movie was very "Hollywood" and only about 20% actually happened the way they recorded it. I will paste a link below if you want to read the New York Times article that led to the writing of this movie. The man is now "up in age" and in a wheel chair and still seemingly as heartless as he was in the 70's. The movie claims that he got 15 years for his crimes after putting away "bad cops" but he actually served 3! He later went back to jail for 7 years for selling again. There are some great lines in the movie which I won't quote and ruin for you, but they gave insight on the way we tend to view ourselves better than we are in this fallen world. This movie just really made me aware that there is no justice apart from God. It's crazy how a man can commit every crime but get off by dropping a few names. It all just seems to be a game. Michael Vick should have hope. Before Mel Gibson loses the rest of his mind, I want him to make another great movie about the faith. Some stories are worth retelling to magnify and glorify a person. Jesus was the Perfect Candidate, Frank Lucas...not so much.

He also has a daughter who suffered while her parents were in jail, to hear her story...

Ps...I should have known it was going to be bad...look at the ghetto movie ticket Adam got when he went to go buy the tickets...The girl just wrote the movie, the time and her first name. I just knew we were going to get tackled trying to enter the theater with this busted ticket.

Okay, that's all...Til Later...

Between you and Summer...I'm not sure whose blogs make me laugh more....it's a toss up. I agree with Lauren you should start some kind of column. You could be like Carrie Bradshaw....except maybe not write about sex.

Toy, you are hilarious and so is that movie ticket. I have been trying not to laugh (very loud) at that ghetto-tastic ticket. Did the movie even get credit for the purchase of that ticket? Hmm I wonder?
